After repairs to the auto pilot rudder sensor, and fixing a leaky hose dripping salt water and antifreeze into the engine drip pan, we are ready to get out of Atlantic City.
Leaving Atlantic City early. Looking like a calm day on the Atlantic to get around Cape May and up to the Chesapeake-Delaware Canal.
Atlantic City in the rearview mirror.
Getting passed by a flock of geese headed south.
Passing Cape May
Being overtaken by a tanker.
Big load of containers, vehicles and even a couple dump trucks.
Heading West in the Chesapeake-Delaware Canal after a long day.
Tied up at the dock for the night after fueling up (370 gallons this time around).
Up early and headed to the Chesapeake with the sun chasing us. Going to skip Annapolis and power on to Solomons MD.
Nice night in Solomons, MD. Great little town with tons of marinas and boats. And a tiki bar, too.
Waiting for the storm to pass over us, then push out.
Pulling into Ingram Bay Marina breakwater.
View of the boat from the dinghy after retrieving Kristin’s fishing lure.
Uh oh. Leaky water pump on the starboard engine. Ugh!
Found a mechanic in Deltaville VA that would rebuild the water pump. We motored down a couple hours on one engine. The boat goes nearly the same speed on a single engine… makes me wonder why not run one at a time. We arrived at Walden’s Marina just before 5PM. The pump was off and in the shop for diagnosis by 6PM and parts ordered to be shipped in by noon the following day. We had a good meal and drinks at Deltaville Tap and Raw Bar. Borrowed a truck from the Marina in the morning and hit the grocery store. Boat was done around 1:30 and we were Norfolk-bound by 2:00.
Pulling into Norfolk at night for a quick stay before fueling up in the morning (415 gallons) and heading toward North Carolina.
Nestled into the Great Bridge lock.
Lock open, bridge up. Last one in, last one out. On to North Carolina.
Meanwhile… back at home, Jazz is following our movements on the map.
So we made it to Coinjock NC. One more state down. The weather looked dicey ahead, so we made the call to return to Norfolk. Headed back North.
Early light as we leave Coinjock. Sunrise on the Currituck Sound. Making progress back.
Seagulls having a blast following in our draft.
Cute little tug back in Norfolk.
Pulling into Ocean Yacht Marina, where we will stay for the winter. Sitting across the river from a Navy yard repairing a bunch of ships.
Went to the zoo for the day. Is that Grant and Culla?
… yep, pretty sure it is.
Stay alert!
Got my Norfolk Zoo “sloth” cup to honor the short-term Mascot at Hanover High.
Serious pong setup at Waterside in Norfolk.
21st anniversary dinner aboard the boat. Getting ready for thunderstorms on halloween.
