Ocracoke Island, NC to Oriental, NC
While we had planned to stay another day on Ocracoke Island, the weather Sunday looked a bit threatening, so we turned in our golf cart, fueled up and pushed off for Oriental (and hopefully a new dinghy).
As we pulled out of Silver Lake, there were tens of thousands of birds in the channel. Mostly Cormorants, but also Pelicans.
Can’t go over ‘em. Can’t go under ‘em. Gotta go through them.
Meanwhile, back in Enfield, the political season marches on. Kristin and I voted before we left.
We put a deposit on a new dinghy, then went back to the boat for som socially distanced live music.
A beautiful 1930 Elco heading out in the rain Sunday morning. Plan for the day is Piggy Wiggly, West Marine and football.
Primary reason for the planned longer stop in Oriental NC was to trade in the old Zodiac for a new dinghy. Turns out the trade-in value was zero, so we gave it to a local kid that promptly slapped a 15HP engine on it, blew it up and took it out to zoom around the harbor.
The former Hurricane Zeta blew through resulting in a rough day at the dock.
With Zeta passing, the Northeast winds blowing up the Nuese River ended up blowing all of the water out. As a result, the water level dropped by about 5 feet, with our boat settling comfortably onto the bottom of the harbor. Nice big keel, so no harm to the boat.
Finally, after a long wait, the new RIB showed up on Thursday. Looks good on its perch.
And back at home…. snow!
Friday was very windy, so after a full week in Oriental, we had seen all there is to see. Finally back underway Saturday (Halloween, our 22nd wedding anniversary, and Robbie’s birthday, as well as blue moon, time to change the clocks back). We’re on to Swansboro, NC.
