Tight squeeze into our slip in Kingston, NY. Pretty neat spot. Lucy loved the ducks.
Neat lighthouses headed up the Hudson River. Second time I have visited Coxsackie. We took the mast and boom down to clear low bridges on the Erie Canal. It was actually quite a simple process…A pretty easy ride up the Hudson through Albany and Troy and into the Mohawk River/Erie Canal. We passed through our first lock on the Hudson, before entering the Erie Canal, that is loaded with locks. It’s going to be slow going the next week or two. Through 9 locks on our first travel day on the Erie Canal. Most of the day we traveled with 3 other boats, so got into a good pattern where we all had our positions in the lock. Something like 30 locks left before we hit Lake Erie.Lock 17 is a 41 foot lift. Going up!Some of the many sights along the trip… Sylvan Beach is quite a site to take in.No cover on the boat to get under the low bridges. Damn it’s hot up here! Some of those low bridges, and a skinny canal for much of the Western part of the Erie Canal.Motoring along in 10-12 of water, but you gottta pay attention being so close to the shore on either side. Kinda fun going by ducks and geese and watching the wake… particularly the baby ducks. There is a double lock in Lockport, NY. You go into the first, lift up, doors open into a second chamber to do it all again. Lots of bridges, too. Finally into Buffalo for some original wings and a beer. Ahhh.Fourth of July at the Buffalo Bisons game. Pretty good fireworks show and the Buffalo Symphony Orchestra.
