Portsmouth VA to Charleston SC (Christmas 2019)

Preparing for the house/cat sitter...
Stocking up for the house/cat-sitter…
Large pile of horseshoes.
Robbie and I needed to kill time while Kristin attended a board meeting in Concord. I hit Google Maps and searched for “attractions” and found a listing for a “large pile of horseshoes” in Hopkinton. Will have to come back to visit when the fresh fallen snow is not covering the scene.
BINGO
Robbie and Kristin laser focused on a game of Bingo at the Legend Brewing Depot in Portsmouth.
Blackout BINGO
Turns out Robster won “blackout bingo” and a prize basket. Promising start to our trip.

Portsmouth to Coinjock (December 19)

Bye Portsmouth/Norfolk…
Getting through the Great Bridge Lock. All geared up for the cold.
Pulling into Coinjock for fuel and prime rib. We forgot the boat shore power cable in Portsmouth, leaving it hanging on the pole, but were able to borrow one for the night (will have to figure out what to do about that for the rest of the trip). Good prime rib (lots of it). We plan to head out first thing and try to make Bellhaven.

Coinjock to Bellhaven (December 20)

Under the Coinjock Bridge at first light.
Ice still on the flybridge windows as the sun comes up approaching Albemarle Sound.
A little chop as we cross Albemarle Sound and head toward the Aligator River.
Cruising through the Pungo River-Aligator River Canal toward Bellhaven. Making good time!

Bellhaven to Morehead City NC (December 21)

Back out on the water…. headed to the next stop.
Passing a fishing village and Coast Guard station.
A couple tugs pulling about a half mile of dredging equipment.
Uh oh.
Almost to Morehead City Yacht Basin. Lot’s of dolphins starting to pop up.
Nice mermaid with her holiday jewelry while we watch the Pats at the Ruddy Duck Tavern in Morehead City.

Morehead City to Hampstead NC (December 22)

Cruising down the ICW.
Passing a good size tanker in moored in the ICW.
Cool little “cottage” for sale.
Passing through Camp Lejeune. Hold your fire, fellas.

Hampstead to North Myrtle Beach SC (December 23)

Yucky, rainy day.
Getting a little email done from my “office”.
Better get your bilge pump checked.
Welcome to South Carolina. Just crossing into the 9th state on our trip south this fall.
Just an ugly day. Glad Robbie will be out there tossing lines when we pull in.

North Myrtle Beach to Georgetown, SC (Christmas Eve)

Hmmmm… why are all the couch cushions flipped up. Hemmert?
Some fans of The President.
Robbie seems a little tired today. Catching a little cat nap on the bow.
Just raised the NH flag. Looking good!
Waking up and hanging feet off the bow.
Nice El Camino on our walk into Georgetown. Kristin was disappointed that we got in after the S.C. Rice Museum was closed.
It’s alive!

Georgetown to Charleston (Christmas Day)

Lots of duck hunters looking to bag a Christmas duck. Love the boats.
Very cool floating swing bridge closing after we cruise through.
Coming into civilization with lots of homes… still not many boats on the docks or on the water. Lots of dolphins though… thought I might get this one!
Passing a tanker moored in Charleston Harbor.
Pulling into Charleston Harbor Marina and Resort. We made it! Merry Christmas.

Mema and PopPop Visit

Headed out for a few “supplies”. Cool view of the carrier, destroyer and sub at Patriot Point.
Cool tree all decked out for the holiday season.
PopPop navigating.
